For me, packing is a ritual. It’s calming. Enjoyable. Contemplative.
For me, it’s an even bigger event than actually going there at times. I relish the moments I spend deciding and editing what gets to come with me on my journey. Travel, after all, is my main reason for becoming a minimalist. Packing for trips is a very good way to bra
A while back I took a trip to Coeur d’Alene , Idaho and recorded all that I brought with me.
One could easily last a lot longer with these few items. You may need to spend a little time doing laundry, but it’s a small price to pay for light traveling.
Looking back, I could have packed even less if I had wanted to. As time goes on and I travel to more places I shed more and more from my packing lists. It’s so freeing to travel with one small bag. At the time, I had a purse, which I have since paired down to just a wallet.

A two words on Coeur d’Alene, Idaho: go there. It is amazing and nothing like you would expect. I’m a Midwesterner who thought Idaho was all potato fields and not much else. That specific area, is glorious beyond imagination. The scenery, the culture, the people… all was so serene and beautiful.
And don’t get me started on their lakes. I’m from the land of 10,000 of them and none of them are nearly as gorgeous. I highly recommend visiting in the summertime and spending as much time as you can outdoors. Fill up a cooler, grab a friend or two and go to the lake. Heaven.
What do you guys pack? Are there things that you personally cannot do without?
